The National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) is a DfT backed programme to deliver improvements to 150 medium sized stations in England and Wales. The primary objective of the programme is to bring about a noticeable and lasting improvement in the passenger perception of security, to improve access and egress, to enhance the overall presentation of the station and to improve information provision and other facilities.
Vitec was commissioned to undertake a joint venture with TST to design, manage the installation and set to work a wide range of improved services for nine stations across North Wales. The project involved feasibility studies and detailed designs for Telecoms, M&E services, CCTV and Customer Information Systems (CIS), including ‘next train’ indicators.
Commissioned by Arriva Trains Wales under the auspices of the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) scheme the systems were designed and installed in accordance with RT/SP/TEL/30022 standard.
The success of this work has resulted in the planned commencement of Phase 2 later in the year and the improvements and systems being rolled out across a further 37 stations in the region.
