When the decision was taken to continue and enhance rail services provided from Swansea Railway Station it was decided to carry out a long overdue, comprehensive services and systems refurbishment of the whole station including, platforms, station buildings and station frontage. This included upgrading the existing customer information services within the station and new bus information services within the concourse of the station.
Vitec were commissioned to design and manage the installation of the Customer Information Systems (CIS) – Train and Bus schedules, CCTV, Data and expansion of the PA system.
The CIS system design including the positioning of summary information display boards within the concourse, entrance and ticket office, next train indicators on the platforms and bus timetable information display boards within the concourse area of the station. The summary of departure screens and next train indicator screens were linked to the central 24/7 monitoring centre at Cardiff Central Station. The bus timetable screens were linked back to the local bus services offices.
The design also included a new local network system including, modem, switches, patch panels, hubs and power supplies.
Upon completion all systems were approved by Network Rail Standard RT/SP/TEL/30022.
